  • In document above, Professor Danuta Wasserman, head of the Department of Public Health at the Karolinska Institute, and Professor Leif Svanström, head of the division of social medicine:

[Translation of texts marked in document above]: “Professor Ferrada-Noli is research leader of the Cross-cultural Injury Epidemiology section, a section of the Safety Promotion research group at the Department of Social Medicine.”

“Regarding teaching, Marcello Ferrada de Noli has regularly received high evaluations from the students in social medicine and from the public health science program at the department.”

“Professor Ferrada de Noli’s research on PTSD and suicidality in a transcultural perspective has been internationally recognized and in 2005 he received an academic award from the Instituto Superior de Ciencias Médicas de La Habana, one of Latin America’s oldest and most prestigious medical faculties. This award was reported in the Karolinska Institute’s honours report in 2005.”

“We assess Professor Ferrada de Noli’s contribution to the department of social medicine and the department of public health sciences as highly valuable.”

Denna utmärkelse redovisades i Karolinska Institutes ärsberättelse 2005.

  • Professor Marie Asberg, senior professor of psychiatry, and head of the Department of Clinical Neuroscience at the Karolinska Institute at the time of this evaluation.  (Prof. Marie Asberg’s letter 1997-05-12 to Medicinska forskningsrådet (1945–2000), now the Swedish Research Council):
“[Marcello Ferrada de Noli] has further taken a particular interest in the connection between post-traumatic psychological damage, especially after torture, and suicidality. On the basis of the clinical investigations that he carried out at the Center for Torture Diagnostics & Treatment (CTD), he has been able to show a connection between the torture method and the suicide method in suicidal thoughts and plans. This is an original discovery of great theoretical interest.”
“During the current postdoctoral period at Harvard, he has engaged in collaboration with American researchers on the issues above, which can be expected to lead to continued collaboration and scientific publications. Ferrada-Noli has proven to be a committed, original, and resourceful researcher with uncommonly good work ability and high productivity.”
  • From Professor Kari Ormstad, Forensic Medicine department, Karolinska Institute:

“Marcello Ferrada-Noli, lic. med. sci., Ph.D. has been conducting part of his research project in suicidology at the Department of Forensic Medicine, Stockholm since 1987. He has proven himself to be an ardent worker guided by genuine interest for his topic, pathos for truth and fairness, and a critical scientific mind.”

  • From Professor Kim Lützen (Karolinska Institute), Professor Unni Lindström (Åbo Academi), and Professor Mari Kirkevold (University of Oslo) 2000:

“Marcello Ferrada de Noli’s research is without doubt an important contribution to psychiatry. His scientific and professional accomplishments are extensive and impressive. His accomplishments within the field of psychosocial medicine are extensive.”

  • From Assoc professor Tom Lundin, Karolinska Institute:

“Dr Marcello Ferrada-Noli, Ph.D. has been working with psychological and psychiatric problems within the field of PTSD since many years. He is a very clever and ambitious scientist.”

  • From Professor Lillemor Hallberg (Sweden), Professor Geisela Geiser (Norway), and Professor Maurice Mittelmark (USA, Norway), 2000:

[Translated]: “Marcello Ferrada de Noli (MFN) has a very broad academic education (e.g., social and medical anthropology, philosophy, pedagogy, psychology, social psychiatry, cultural psychiatry) with several completed academic degrees.” “MFN’s scientific production is very extensive…and is first author on all (the 12 articles submitted for review) articles and sole author on five articles, which testifies to great independence in research.” “Two areas of research interest can be distinguished: (1) partly epidemiological studies of suicidal behaviour and ethnicity, and psychosocial and socio-economic factors and health, (2) partly morbidity in relation to post-traumatic stress and culture. The scientific quality of MFN’s studies is high.” (MFN) has long-term experience of teaching at various universities (Sweden, Norway, and the USA). He is a documented valued lecturer among students due to its, in positive terms, “different” pedagogical appearance that requires reflection and learning-creating dialogue with the students.”

  • From Professor Anne Karen Bjellan (Bergen), Professor Bengt Starring (Göteborg), and Professor Jan Tøssebro (Trondheim) 2000:

[Translation]:

“All his submitted works have been published in international journals, which is a strength. His work is often cited in the international literature, some of which include is expressed in the number of references which at the end of June 1998 was over 100 (Citation index). In his work on suicide, he shows that he knows well both the social science theory building and the more medical theory building in the area.” “His research effort is certainly important and significant” “MFN is a productive researcher and very competent in his field” “MFN has extensive teaching experience.”

  • From Professor Kim Lützen (Karolinska Institute), Professor Unni Lindström (Åbo Academi), and Professor Mari Kirkevold (University of Oslo) 2000:

“Marcello Ferrada-Noli research is without doubt an important contribution to psychiatry. His scientific and professional accomplishments are extensive and impressive. MFN has long experience in teaching at different levels within the university system and his teaching seem to be appreciated by students”. “Marcello Ferrada-Noli has made significant scientific contributions to the understanding of the psychosocial situation on refugees and has experience as a psychotherapist”. “His accomplishments within the field of psychosocial medicine are extensive”.

  • From Professor Karl Halvor Teigen (Tromsø), Professor Anna Louise von der Lippe (Oslo) and Professor Odd E. Havik (Bergen) 1999:
